PAGE 1 — A DANGEROUS TIME

PANEL 1 — TITLE

EZRA & THE TIME SCROLL
Adventures Through Bible Time

Series 1 — Episode 4

THE BABY IN THE BASKET

A forecasterman Comic

Visual: The Nile at sunrise. Tall reeds sway along the riverbank. A small woven basket rests among them. Ezra and Sam stand in the foreground with the glowing Time Scroll.

PANEL 2 — THE SCROLL'S NEW CLUE

Visual: Back in the cave. The image of Joseph and Egypt from Episode 3 fades from the Scroll. A new image appears: the Nile, reeds and a small basket.

Sam:
“A basket?”

Ezra:
“And the Nile.”

Sam:
“Who could be in it?”

Ezra:
“Let's find out.”

Visual note: Do not show the baby yet. Preserve the mystery.

PANEL 3 — THROUGH TIME

Visual: Ezra places his hand on the central Time Scroll symbol. Sam touches the edge.

The ancient symbols rotate.

The Scroll glows brightly.

SFX:

WHOOOOSH!

Visual: A circular portal surrounds them as the cave disappears.

PANEL 4 — EGYPT

Visual: Ezra and Sam arrive beside the Nile. Ancient Egyptian buildings, boats, palm trees and people fill the background.

Sam:
“We're in Egypt again.”

Ezra:
“But this isn't Joseph's Egypt.”

Sam:
“How do you know?”

Ezra notices Hebrew families nearby.

Ezra:
“Something has changed.”

PANEL 5 — A TERRIBLE DECREE

Visual: An Egyptian official announces Pharaoh's order to the Hebrew people. Worried parents hold their babies. Guards stand in the background. No violence is shown.

Official:
“Pharaoh has given his command!”

Sam:
“That's terrible.”

Ezra:
“Now we understand why everyone is afraid.”

Visual note: Keep this panel serious but non-graphic and family-friendly.

PANEL 6 — A MOTHER HIDES HER BABY

Visual: Inside a simple Hebrew home, a mother carefully holds her newborn baby. She looks toward the doorway, worried.

Caption:
She protected her baby and kept him hidden.

Sam:
“She won't be able to hide him forever.”

Ezra:
“She'll have to find another way.”

PAGE 2 — THE BASKET

PANEL 7 — THREE MONTHS LATER

Visual: The baby is now slightly older. The mother looks toward the doorway while holding him.

Caption:

THREE MONTHS LATER

Ezra:
“She can't keep him hidden anymore.”

Sam:
“What will she do?”

Visual: The mother looks toward the Nile.

PANEL 8 — THE BASKET

Visual: The mother carefully prepares a papyrus basket. She coats it with tar/pitch to make it watertight.

Ezra:
“That reminds me of Noah's ark.”

Sam:
“It's much smaller.”

Ezra:
“But it carries a very big story.”

Visual note: This is a deliberate visual connection to Episode 1. Exodus describes the basket being coated with bitumen/pitch. (biblegateway.com)

PANEL 9 — INTO THE REEDS

Visual: At the Nile, the mother gently places the baby in the basket among the reeds.

Her older daughter watches nearby.

Caption:
She placed the basket among the reeds beside the Nile.

Visual: The mother pauses for one emotional moment before leaving.

No dialogue.

Visual note: A quiet panel gives the reader a breathing space.

PANEL 10 — WATCHING

Visual: The sister remains hidden at a safe distance, watching the basket.

In the background, a group of women approaches the river.

Caption:
His sister stayed nearby to see what would happen.

Sam:
“Someone's coming.”

Ezra:
“Let's stay hidden.”

PANEL 11 — PHARAOH'S DAUGHTER

Visual: Pharaoh's daughter approaches the Nile with her attendants. One attendant notices the basket among the reeds.

Attendant:
“There's something in the reeds.”

Princess:
“Bring it to me.”

Visual: Ezra and Sam observe quietly from a distant position.

PANEL 12 — THE BABY IS FOUND

Visual: Pharaoh's daughter opens the basket and sees the crying baby. Her expression changes from surprise to compassion.

Princess:
“This is one of the Hebrew babies.”

Sam:
“She knows who he is.”

Ezra:
“And she feels sorry for him.”

Visual note: Make compassion the emotional focus—not fear.

PAGE 3 — A NEW BEGINNING

PANEL 13 — HIS SISTER'S COURAGE

Visual: The young sister steps forward carefully and speaks to Pharaoh's daughter.

Sister:
“Shall I find a Hebrew woman to nurse the baby?”

Princess:
“Yes. Go.”

The sister hurries away.

Ezra:
“That was brave.”

Sam:
“Very brave.”

Visual note: Keep the sister clearly portrayed as a child/young girl, courageous but not unrealistically heroic.

PANEL 14 — HIS MOTHER RETURNS

Visual: The baby's mother is brought back to Pharaoh's daughter.

The princess carefully hands the baby to her.

Princess:
“Take this baby and nurse him for me.”

Princess:
“I will pay you.”

The mother looks relieved and emotional.

Sam:
“She gets to care for him.”

Ezra:
“And she's being paid to do it.”

PANEL 15 — MOSES

Visual: Some time has passed. Moses' mother brings him to Pharaoh's daughter. The princess receives him as her son.

Princess:
“I will call him Moses.”

Sam:
“Moses?”

Ezra:
“He was drawn out of the water.”

Visual: Gentle visual echo of the Nile and basket.

PANEL 16 — DID YOU KNOW?

DID YOU KNOW?

Moses' mother hid him for three months. When she could hide him no longer, she placed him in a papyrus basket among the reeds of the Nile. Pharaoh's daughter found him and eventually raised him as her son. (biblegateway.com)

WHAT EZRA LEARNED

“When we can't see what comes next, we can still take the next right step.”

Visual: Small, simple sequence:
Mother → Basket → Nile → Pharaoh's Daughter → Moses

PANEL 17 — RETURN

Visual: Back in the cave. Ezra and Sam stand beside the glowing Time Scroll.

Ezra:
“We don't always know where the journey will lead.”

Sam:
“But we can still take the next step.”

The Scroll displays:

RETURN

SFX:

WHOOOOSH!

PANEL 18 — NEXT JOURNEY

Visual: The Scroll opens again.

A mysterious image appears:

Moses as an adult shepherd standing before a bush that burns with fire—but is not consumed.

Ezra and Sam stare at it.

Sam:
“That's not a normal bush.”

Ezra:
“No.”

Ezra looks at the Scroll.

Ezra:
“And I think we know who we're about to meet.”
