# SECRET ATLAS

Season 1 Episode 3 - The Waterfall That Flows Up

Location: Waipuhia Falls, Oʻahu, Hawaii, USA
Phenomenon: Reverse / “upside-down” waterfall
Science: Strong winds can blow falling water and spray back upward before it reaches the ground. Waipuhia Falls is known for this effect during wet, windy conditions. (lakequality.org)

Story rule: The trio does not literally overcome gravity. The waterfall still falls downward; powerful winds push the water and spray upward, creating the spectacular reverse-waterfall appearance.

PANEL 1 — THE HOOK

“THAT'S NOT HOW WATER WORKS!”

Visual: A spectacular view across the lush Nuʻuanu Valley. Rain pours over the cliff, but instead of appearing to fall normally, the waterfall's spray is being blown dramatically upward into the sky.

Sam, Shahik and Aniket stare in disbelief.

Sam:
“Tell me I'm seeing that correctly.”

Aniket:
“The waterfall is going UP!”

Shahik:
“Water is supposed to go down.”

Sam:
“Apparently someone forgot to tell the waterfall.”

PANEL 2 — THE MYSTERY

“IS GRAVITY BROKEN?”

Visual: Shahik activates his holographic weather scanner. Wind arrows streak upward along the cliff.

Shahik:
“Strong northeasterly winds detected.”

Sam:
“So the wind is lifting the waterfall?”

Shahik:
“Not exactly.”

Aniket:
“Then exactly what?”

Sam pulls out his notebook.

Sam:
“I've got a theory.”

Shahik:
“Please make it a sensible one.”

Sam:
“Gravity took the afternoon off.”

Shahik:
“I withdraw my request.”

PANEL 3 — THE FIELD TEST

“FOLLOW THE WIND!”

Visual: The team sets up a compact weather station and releases lightweight streamers near the waterfall. Shahik tracks wind direction and speed while Aniket positions a small camera drone safely away from the cliff.

Sam watches the water droplets.

Shahik:
“Wind is moving upward along the cliff face.”

Aniket:
“Camera ready.”

Sam:
“Let's see what happens to the water.”

The spray suddenly shoots upward.

SFX:
WHOOOOSH!

Sam:
“THERE!”

Aniket:
“That's officially weird.”

PANEL 4 — THE CHAOS

“THE WIND WINS!”

Visual: A powerful gust hits. Spray blasts toward the trio. Aniket's papers fly everywhere. Sam's notebook nearly disappears. Shahik's visor fills with rain droplets.

SFX:
FWOOOOSH!

Sam:
“My notes!”

Aniket:
“My drone!”

Shahik:
“My sensors!”

A gust sends all three scrambling.

Sam:
“GOOD NEWS!”

Shahik:
“What?”

Sam:
“We found the wind!”

Shahik:
“BAD NEWS!”

Aniket:
“What?”

Shahik:
“It found us too!”

PANEL 5 — THE EXPLANATION + FACT FILE

“NO MAGIC. JUST WIND.”

Visual: A large scientific cutaway diagram.

Show:

RAINWATER
↓
WATER FALLS DOWN
↓
🌬️ STRONG WIND HITS WATER
↗
DROPLETS + SPRAY BLOW UPWARD

The diagram shows the waterfall's normal downward direction alongside the wind-driven upward spray.

Sam:
“So gravity is still working.”

Shahik:
“Exactly.”

Aniket:
“And the wind is just strong enough to push the falling water back upward.”

Sam:
“That's less magical.”

Shahik:
“It's more scientific.”

“THE ATLAS IS GETTING STRANGER.”

Visual: The trio returns to their field station.

Sam dries the Atlas Incognita while Shahik examines the data and Aniket repairs the battered drone.

Suddenly—

WHOOSH!

The pages of the Atlas flip by themselves.

A new map appears.

This time, the page shows a vast lake glowing an eerie pink-red colour.

Shahik:
“That's not Hawaii.”

Aniket:
“Definitely not.”

Sam looks at the new coordinates.

Sam:
“Where is it?”

The Atlas reveals:

Underneath:

LAKE HILLIER
WESTERN AUSTRALIA

Sam grins.

Sam:
“Let's go find out why a lake is pink.”

Shahik:
“I'm already worried.”

Aniket:
“I'm bringing the marshmallows.”

Shahik:
“Why?”

Aniket:
“You never know.”
