Nighttime.
The owls are outside the Parliament building.
Hooten looks up.
Hooten:
"Something is missing."
Dozy looks up sleepily.
Dozy:
"My motivation?"
Panel 3 — NERVY SPOTS IT
Nervy looks around frantically.
Nervy:
"The moon!"
Everyone looks up.
The moon isn't where they expect it to be.
Nervy:
"IT'S GONE!"
Munch:
"Can I have its parking space?"
Panel 4 — EMERGENCY MEETING
SFX:
BANG!
Hooten slams the gavel.
Hooten:
"Emergency session!"
Dozy:
"At night?"
Hooten:
"We're owls, Dozy."
Dozy:
"Exactly. I'm tired."
Panel 5 — THE INVESTIGATION
Hooten points at a giant board:
WHERE IS THE MOON?
Underneath:
Missing?
Stolen?
Broken?
On holiday?
Winky:
"Maybe it resigned."
Hooten:
"The moon cannot resign."
Winky:
"Have you checked the regulations?"
Panel 6 — MUNCH'S THEORY
Munch raises his wing.
Munch:
"I have a theory."
Everyone turns.
Munch:
"Someone ate it."
Silence.
Hooten:
"Who could eat the moon?"
Munch slowly raises his wing.
Munch:
"I don't know yet."
PAGE 2 — THE INVESTIGATION
Panel 7 — THE MOON MAP
Hooten unveils a huge map of the sky.
It has arrows, coordinates, circles and dozens of notes.
Hooten:
"According to our records, the moon should be..."
He points dramatically.
Hooten:
"...THERE!"
Everyone looks.
Nothing.
Dozy:
"Very convincing."
Panel 8 — WINKY'S THEORY
Winky examines the sky through a telescope.
Winky:
"I believe the moon has moved."
Hooten:
"Impossible."
Winky:
**"Why?"
Hooten:
"Because nobody approved the movement."
Winky smiles.
Winky:
"Ah. So it's an illegal moon."
Panel 9 — NERVY PANICS
Nervy suddenly spins his head around.
Nervy:
"WAIT!"
Everyone jumps.
Nervy:
"If the moon moved..."
His eyes widen.
Nervy:
"...what else can move?"
Munch looks at a tree.
Munch:
"My sandwich."
He discovers his sandwich is missing.
Munch:
"MY SANDWICH!"
Panel 10 — FULL PARLIAMENTARY CRISIS
Everyone starts talking at once.
Hooten:
"Order!"
Winky:
"We need evidence."
Nervy:
"THE SKY IS MOVING!"
Munch:
"MY SANDWICH IS GONE!"
Dozy:
"Can I go home?"
Hooten bangs the gavel repeatedly.
SFX:
BANG! BANG! BANG!
Panel 11 — 🧠LEARNED SOMETHING NEW!
Winky calmly interrupts.
Winky:
"Actually, the moon isn't always in the same place in the sky."
Everyone stops.
Winky:
"The Earth rotates, and the moon orbits Earth, so its apparent position changes throughout the night."
Nervy:
"So the moon wasn't stolen?"
Winky:
**"No."
Beat.
Winky:
"It was simply somewhere else."
LEARNED SOMETHING NEW! 🌙
The Moon appears to move across the sky because Earth rotates, while the Moon also orbits Earth.
Munch:
"What about my sandwich?"
Panel 12 — THE SANDWICH MYSTERY
Everyone turns toward Munch.
Munch looks around.
Munch:
"It was right here."
Dozy points downward.
The sandwich is sitting on Munch's foot.
Dozy:
"Found it."
Munch looks down.
Munch:
"...I knew that."
PAGE 3 — THE GREAT MOON CASE
Panel 13 — HOOTEN SAVES THE DAY
Hooten proudly closes the giant investigation file.
Hooten:
"Excellent work, Parliament."
He writes:
CASE CLOSED:
MOON NOT STOLEN
Nervy looks relieved.
Nervy:
"So everything is normal?"
Hooten:
"Completely normal."
Panel 14 — WINKY FINDS SOMETHING
Winky looks through the telescope again.
Winky:
"Mayor..."
Hooten:
"Yes?"
Winky:
**"I found the moon."
Everyone rushes over.
Panel 15 — THE MOON
Everyone looks through the telescope.
There it is.
Huge and beautiful.
Munch:
**"Oh."
Dozy:
**"So it was there all along."
Nervy:
"I feel slightly embarrassed."
Winky:
"Only slightly?"
Panel 16 — THE REAL PROBLEM
Hooten suddenly looks suspicious.
Hooten:
"Wait."
Everyone turns.
Hooten points at the sky.
Hooten:
"If the moon is there..."
He looks at the Parliament building.
Hooten:
"...why is our clock showing noon?"
Everyone stares at the clock.
It says:
12:00
Dozy:
"Oh."
Panel 17 — THE REVELATION
Winky examines the clock.
Winky:
"The clock is broken."
Hooten:
**"Then why didn't anyone report it?"
Everyone slowly looks at Dozy.
Dozy shrugs.
Dozy:
"I thought it was lunchtime."
Munch immediately stands up.
Munch:
"It IS lunchtime!"
Panel 18 — FINAL PUNCHLINE
The Parliament erupts into chaos.
Hooten:
"ORDER!"
Winky:
"We need a committee."
Nervy:
"WHAT IF TIME IS BROKEN TOO?!"
Dozy immediately grabs his pillow.
Dozy:
"Finally. A reasonable excuse to sleep."
Munch:
"Can we have lunch first?"
Hooten bangs the gavel.
SFX:
BANG!
Outside, the moon shines peacefully.
CAPTION:
"The Parliament will investigate the clock tomorrow."
Dozy, already asleep:
"Tomorrow is a committee problem."
