THE 7TH REFLECTION
A Visual Mystery by Forecasterman
Series 1 • Episode 3 • The Locked Room
Main Character: Mary ma'am
PANEL 2 — STORY
The clue from the Royal Gem Exhibition leads Mary ma'am to an old private library.
A priceless antique manuscript called The Explorer's Codex has disappeared from a room that was locked from the outside.
The librarian insists nobody entered the room.
The windows were locked.
There is only one door.
Mary examines the empty reading stand.
Librarian:
“The manuscript was here at eight o'clock. Twenty minutes later, it was gone.”
Mary notices two photographs of the library.
One was taken before the disappearance.
The other was taken after.
Mary ma'am:
“If the room really was locked, the answer must be in what changed.”
She places the photographs side by side.
Mary ma'am:
“Let's compare them.”
PANEL 3 — BEFORE
BEFORE — 8:00 PM
Show the library before the manuscript disappears.

Small potted plant

The librarian stands near the door.

“I locked the room immediately after this photograph was taken.”
Mary studies the scene.
Mary ma'am:
“And nobody else had a key?”
Librarian:
“No one.”
PANEL 4 — AFTER
AFTER — 8:20 PM
Show the exact same library from the same viewpoint.
The manuscript has disappeared.
The following six differences must be clearly visible:
1. DESK LAMP
Before: pointing toward the reading stand.
After: turned toward the bookshelf.
2. GREEN CHAIR
Before: facing the manuscript.
After: turned slightly toward the bookshelf.
3. GLOBE
Before: in its original position.
After: rotated to a Indian Ocean position.
4. POTTED PLANT
Before: on the left side of the desk.
After: moved to the right side.
5. FRAMED MAP

After: tilted slightly.
6. WALL CLOCK
Before: 8:00 PM.
After: 8:20 PM.
The small round mirror remains in exactly the same position.
The door and window still appear untouched.
Mary compares the photographs.
Mary ma'am:
“The manuscript vanished…”
She points toward the bookshelf.
Mary ma'am:
“…but six things were moved.”
PANEL 5 — THE CLUES
Mary identifies the six visible differences:
1. Desk lamp — turned toward the bookshelf.
2. Green chair — turned toward the bookshelf.
3. Globe — rotated.
4. Potted plant — moved to the opposite side.
5. Framed map — tilted.
6. Wall clock — changed from 8:00 to 8:20.
Mary notices something unusual.
The lamp, chair and tilted map all seem to direct attention toward the bookshelf.
Mary ma'am:
“Three changes point to the same place.”
She looks into the small round mirror.
THE 7TH REFLECTION
The mirror reflects the bookshelf from an angle Mary cannot see directly.
In the reflection, she notices a thin dark gap behind the bookshelf.
Mary looks at the bookshelf.
Mary ma'am:
“The seventh clue.”
She moves toward it.
PANEL 6 — STORY RESOLUTION
Mary pushes the bookshelf.
It moves.
Behind it is a narrow hidden passage.
The librarian stares in disbelief.
Librarian:
“I've worked here for twenty years. I never knew that was there!”
Mary shines her flashlight inside.
The manuscript is not there.
Instead, she finds a small brass key lying on the floor.
Engraved on the key:
7:07
Beside it is the familiar seven-point symbol.
Mary recognizes it immediately.
Mary ma'am:
“The same symbol from the painting and the diamond.”
She picks up the key.
Librarian:
“What does the key open?”
Mary looks down the passage.
Mary ma'am:
“That is what we're going to find out.”
She adds the key and the 7:07 clue to her notebook.
FINAL CAPTION
Three mysteries.
One symbol.
And now a hidden passage.
Mary looks into the darkness.
Mary ma'am:
“Someone is leaving a trail.”
