A Visual Mystery by Forecasterman
Series 1 • Episode 1 • The Missing Painting
Main Character: Mary ma'am
PANEL 2 — STORY
Mary ma'am visits the Grand City Art Gallery to see a famous painting called The Golden Valley.
At 10:00 PM, the painting is safely hanging in its frame.
Fifteen minutes later, the curator discovers that it has disappeared.
The glass is unbroken.
The frame is undamaged.
The doors and windows were locked.
There are no footprints.
Curator:
“How could anyone steal a painting without opening the frame?”
Mary studies the room.
Mary ma'am:
“Maybe the painting isn't the only thing that changed.”
The curator shows her two photographs of the gallery.
Mary ma'am:
“Let's compare them.”
PANEL 3 — BEFORE
BEFORE — 10:00 PM
Show the gallery before the painting disappears.

The Golden Valley painting hanging in its frame

Red velvet rope in front of the painting
Blue decorative vase on a pedestal
Guest book open to a blank page on the reception table
Small round mirror on the wall
Wall clock showing 10:00 PM
Marble bust
Gallery bench facing the painting

Side/service door, closed
The curator stands near the painting.
Curator:
“The painting was still here at ten.”
Mary looks around carefully.
Mary ma'am:
“And everything was normal?”
Curator:
“As far as I could see.”
PANEL 4 — AFTER
AFTER — 10:15 PM
Show the exact same gallery from the same viewpoint.
The painting is now missing.
The following six differences must be clearly visible:
1. CCTV CAMERA
Before: pointing toward the painting.
After: turned slightly away.
2. RED VELVET ROPE
Before: straight and evenly positioned.
After: one section has shifted toward the frame.
3. BLUE VASE
Before: in its original position.
After: moved slightly to the right.
4. GALLERY BENCH
Before: facing the painting.
After: turned slightly toward the side door.
5. GUEST BOOK
Before: open to a blank page.
After: open to a different page containing a small seven-point symbol.
6. WALL CLOCK
Before: 10:00 PM.
After: 10:15 PM.
The small round mirror remains in exactly the same position.
The side/service door still appears closed.
Mary compares the two photographs.
Mary ma'am:
“The painting disappeared…”
She points around the room.
Mary ma'am:
“…but six other things changed.”
PANEL 5 — THE CLUES
Mary identifies the six visible differences:
1. CCTV — turned away from the painting.
2. Velvet rope — shifted toward the frame.
3. Blue vase — moved slightly.
4. Gallery bench — turned toward the side door.
5. Guest book — now shows the seven-point symbol.
6. Wall clock — changed from 10:00 to 10:15.
Mary studies the positions of the objects.
Mary ma'am:
“These aren't random.”
She notices the small round mirror.
THE 7TH REFLECTION
Mary looks into the mirror.
The mirror reflects the side/service door.
In the reflection, the door appears slightly open, revealing a dark gap beyond it.
But from the main view, the door appears closed.
Mary looks from the mirror to the door.
Mary ma'am:
“That's the seventh clue.”
PANEL 6 — STORY RESOLUTION
Mary walks toward the side door.
She examines the handle.
A tiny golden paint mark is visible on it.
She looks down and notices the same seven-point symbol scratched beside the door.
Mary touches the mark.
Mary ma'am:
“Gold paint…”
She looks back at the empty frame.
Then she notices a tiny inscription beneath the symbol:
7:07
Mary writes it in her notebook.
Mary ma'am:
“This wasn't just a theft.”
The curator looks confused.
Curator:
“What do you mean?”
Mary looks toward the dark corridor.
Mary ma'am:
“Someone left these clues for me.”
She closes her notebook.
FINAL CAPTION
The painting is missing.
The thief has vanished.
But Mary ma'am has found the first clue in a much bigger mystery.
Mary looks once more at the seven-point symbol.
Mary ma'am:
“Now I want to know why.”
